I get the internet through cable and have only had it a week. It worked OK till I installed some PC protection and now I can't get connected. Well, actually it just comes up with the usual error page. When I looked at the connection information it said something like little or no connection, the internet has not assigned your computer an address. Any ideas on how to solve this? If I uninstall it (not tried it yet) and it still doesn't work where do I go from there. If it does work what do I do for security? And why would installing the software cause a problem anyway? Cutting off the internet all together is a little Draconian - LOL! It's not funny really, I've a 12 month contract!!! I rang up the provider and they said (after 20mins!) it was a computer problem not a network one.
I can't get an internet connection but it's apparently a computer problem.?bmw
You can't get better PC protection than not being able to connect to the Internet!!! That's where all the nasties come from, these days.
Probably you bought one of these terrible security suites that slow your computer to a crawl, and throw in a firewall you don't need unless your computer is over five years old. The firewall then proceeds to block your Internet connection.
First things first. Uninstall your "PC protection" (making a note of anything you need to re-install it later, if necessary). See if that gets your Internet connection back. If so, post details of what software you were using and we can probably tell you how to configure it (or what to use instead). If that doesn't work then it is more likely your cable company is wrong and it's their fault.
